Film Festival Report
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 1/11/07 - "Assumption" is selected to it's 12th Festival. All due to a misdirected email. The Delray Beach Film Festival in Florida is the 12th festival to make "Assumption" an official selection. Are you ready for the long story? In 1998 I registered the business name "Identity Films" and purchased the domain name www.identityfilms.com. 5 or 6 years later Sean William Scott decided to name his production company (you guessed it). Occasionally I get phone calls and emails looking for the other Identity Films. Last year I received one such email from the Director of the Delray Beach Fest asking if Mr. Scott had any films to submit. Long story a little shorter, he graciously waived the fee and today (several months later) I received an acceptance letter. So come to Florida (Did I mention it's Spring Break time?) and see "Assumption" in probably it's last Festival. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 11/05/06 - The International Horror & Sci-Fi Festival in Phoenix is a great event. It took place in Tempe home to Arizona State University. The festival treated me well. They put together a great gift bag, free tee shirts and (more importantly) free drinks. There were a lot of good events scheduled. It was one of the best festivals I've been to. The only drawback was low attendance. The films I saw were all pretty good.
This might have been the last festival for "Assumption". We've stopped applying to new fests and we only have one application outstanding. We don't hear from that one until Feb. I will continue to update this site with information about "Assumption" the feature film. Also "Assumption" will be available for streaming on the web soon (more info will follow). Thanks to everyone who actually checks out this page. I'll keep trying to make it interesting for you to come back to with montly updates. I'm typing this at midnight so I have zero creativity. Next time I'll have some fun stuff for your reading pleasure. |

10/10/06 - Congratulations to James Denton for winning Best Actor in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy genres at ShockerFest. Assumption also took home Best Picture Mini-Short(under 30min)/Short(30-59min) in the Sci-Fi category. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the judges up at ShockerFest and the festival director George Baker. I was so disappointed when I had to cancel my trip up to the festival at the last minute. I heard that the festival was fantastic and I definitely want to try to make it up there in the future.
We had tough competition. There were 5 other films nominated. I mention a film below titled "Microgravity"(see 9/10/06) that appears in many of the same festivals as "Assumption". That film is really fantastic. Another nominated film "Say That You Love Me" received an honorable mention. It is really an honor to be recognized along with such talented filmmakers. |

| 10/04/06 - BEST ALTERNATE REALITY FEATURETTE!!!! I decided to go to the Int'l Horror & Sci-Fi Festival website to see if they had posted the screening times for the festival at the end of the month (Oct. 27-29). I noticed that there was a link "2006 Award Winners – Click here for info", so I clicked and there it was. I received no official notification so I don't know when this transpired. So needless to say, I'm excited about our first Award. "Assumption" is now an award winning film!
Don't forget to check out "Assumption" at ShockerFest in Modesto, CA this weekend! The 30 second spot below has aired in Modesto and neighboring Turlock. Send me an email if you saw it on TV. chris@assumptionthefilm.com! |

| 9/10/06 - WELCOME to the new update page!
The first thing I have to report is that “Assumption” was just accepted to our 11th festival, the International Horror& Sci-Fi fest in Arizona (www.horrorscifi.com for more info). That festival runs from Friday Oct. 27 – 29. DRAGON*CON REVIEW: D*C is a fun event. Where else can you see women walking around in lingerie next to guys dressed in battle armor and storm troopers walking down a city street? Where else can you shake hands with Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) and Rip Taylor? Where else would police officers do nothing when 12 guys dressed in military fatigues carrying machine guns and TOW missiles walk by with a pirate swigging out of an open container of rum? (Maybe Mardi Gras!) The film festival was really well run overall. Most of the films I saw were good. The main drawback was that not every filmmaker got a chance to speak about his/her film. There were no Q&A’s after the films except for a special screening block right before the awards ceremony (after the voting was done). There were 2 blocks where a few filmmakers got to speak during the festival. These filmmakers were hand selected by the programmer. It was one of these filmmakers that won the peer award. Obviously people who got a chance to speak had a leg up in the peer voting. This was the major flaw at D*C. But like I said there were a lot of good films. Including 2 that seem to play everywhere "Assumption" does. "Genesis Antipode" directed by John Robinson. This short challenges a women who tells a man, "I wouldn't date you if you were the last man on Earth." "Micro Gravity" directed by David Sanders also keeps popping up whereever I go. This film has fantastic production value and visual effects. Both are worth checking out if you get the chance. 8/17/06 - Assumption was just accepted into ShockerFest in Modesto, CA. This is our 10th festival. We were one of 6 films nominated for best Short in the Science-Fiction category! 8/14/06 - HollyShorts was fantastic. Assumption came in 2nd in the audience voting for best short! Thank you to everyone who came to the festival and voted for Assumption. Keep checking back for updates! I need all the hits I can get! |

I can only imagine what the police officer is thinking... "Should I arrest the drunken pirate or the guy carrying the concealed laser blaster?"

Every filmmaker received a cool pink ribbon and a 6'5" pink-haired, lingerie clad angel. (It's all about the perks.)

I was behind these guys in the security line at the airport. I'm glad I got there 2 hours before my flight.

They towed this guy's speeder bike because the meter ran out. I lent him 5 imperial credits for the bus ride back to his barracks.
